Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) About

W2i and AGPM-2D

Features

Can AGPM animated the "differences" between two runs?

Yes. In any animation plot window, use Animation... Differences... to select another run. AGPM will subtract one run from the other and display the differences, which you can then animate. Note that your color scale will need to include positive and negative values. The Differences feature will only work if the bathymetry and plot intervals for the two runs are identical. AGPM will provide message alerts if it cannot create a Differences plot.

Can AGPM overlay a second model run on Express (Separated) profiles using Autoprofile?

Yes. After using Autoprofile to create and display a portfolio of separated profiles, use Options... Add 2nd Run... in each plot window. The second run will appear in red.

Can AGPM quickly overlay model vs field data (profiles, time-series, etc)?

Yes, use AGPM's Autoprofile feature.  It will automatically build a portfolio with proper overlays and all you need to do is provide a run name and a field data filename.  We use this feature initially during every calibration to get us going quickly on each parameter of interest. Use Express (Separated)... to get separate profiles with field data overlaid. Use Express... to get several profiles per plot window. Use Custom... to get whatever combination of profiles you want into various plot windows.

Does W2i have a good bathymetry viewer?

Yes, the toolbar button View Bath creates a very nice plan view display of segment connections, reservoir profile (layers and columns), and the cross-section layers, all in one window.  The plan view is clickable to change between branches and segments within a branch. You can click a cell in the reservoir or cross-section plot and it will highlight the same cell in all the other windows.  The reservoir view displays the exact cells where branches connect.

Can I save animations as movies to run later at a faster frame rate?

Yes, use Animation... AVI Recording... from any animation plot window. AGPM will then capture animations using HyperCam and save the movie as an AVI file, which you can later playback with any AVI player.  HyperCam is a $30 shareware program that we use via OLE to capture each frame in an animation, without skipping or doubling up any frame.  You must download and purchase HyperCam separately (see Utilities listed on download.htm for details).  You must use Hypercam v1.51 - that is the only version for which AGPM can create the necessary OLE link for proper frame capture.

Are all of the features listed on the website active in the current release version of AGPM?

Yes.

One of the available plot types mentioned in the documentation on your website is time-depth contours at a longitudinal location.  However, none of the demos provided examples.  Does AGPM provide this capability?

Yes, that plot option is in the latest release version of AGPM.  See the portfolio building screenshot.

Does AGPM provide the capability to plot input files of temperature and WQ constituents as time series plots?

Yes, as part of the new Hydrograph status option for animations.  Also, you can trick AGPM to plot these and other inputs as "field data" on time-series plots of other consituents, but you don't get report ready plots.

Does AGPM run on Windows NT?  I would prefer not to be on the cutting edge of technology for this.

AGPM runs fine on NT 4.0.   We have several users and modeling teams who are successfully running AGPM on NT.

Is there a user manual for W2i and AGPM?

The W2i Help file and the AGPM Help file constitute the user manuals. You can print these out if you need a hard-copy.  Also, AGPM ships with a one-page Shortcut Guide that gives you an at-a-glance summary of all the subtle tricks and keyboard shortcuts for AGPM.

Will AGPM work with any two-dimensional reservoir water quality model?

Yes, AGPM's basic graphics routine and porfolio concept will generate the same quality graphics and animations for any water quality model outputs. Those outputs will require, however, special formatting for compatibility with AGPM. Currently, CE-QUAL-W2, BETTER, and DORMII are the only two-dimensional reservoir models that have outputs adapted to the proper format. Please contact support@loginetics.com to obtain a quote for adapting outputs from other water quality models to compatible format (e.g., WASP).
