Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) About

RMS4 and AGPM-1D

Operations Troubleshooting

In the METFIND routine in RMS, sometimes the same station appears in the ISWO and NCDC lists, but the distances to my reservoir location are different.  Why?

METFIND uses the LAT-LON in the ISWO and NCDC station listings to compute the distances.  If those LAT-LONs are not correct, the distances computed by METFIND will not be correct.  We have found the NCDC LAT-LONs to be somewhat unreliable, so the distances calculated may not be correct.  User caution is advised – use the distances only as a very rough guide to relative position of the stations.  Unfortunately, we have no control over the LAT-LON values reported in the ISWO and NCDC station listings that are used by METFIND to compute distance.

When I run AGPM, the buttons are chopped off and I cannot see the Plot button.  What is happening?

You may have too high a video resolution set and your fonts had to be enlarged to be visible at that resolution.  We suggest 1024x768 for AGPM with Windows Standard Appearance scheme (or Standard Windows XP) with Small (or Regular Fonts).  This should make all the buttons and their labels visible.

When I run the legacy plotter (TPLOT) in RMS4, just as I type a plot option number in the interactive Q/A session in the DOS window, the window disappears and it all crashes without making a screen plot.  What is happening?

This can occur if you have your user files (*.aii, etc.) buried deep in a long directory path.  Try putting your data in a path that is shorter.

I keep getting “Input past end of file” when I try to use the GEOM editor in RMS4, and when I use AGPM-1D.

Your ADYN input file (*.aii) is missing one or more carriage returns. This can arise when different computers are used to generate text files.  To fix this, open and close the .aii file using the EDIT command in the command prompt window.

For example:             edit  “c:\program files\Rms4\testdata\myriver\myfile.aii”

Make a small change and change it back, then save.  This exercise will add the proper carriage returns.  Also make sure there are no tabs or other special or hidden characters in your input file.

When I open the River Modeling System interface in Windows NT (or 2000 or XP), the program hangs and I have to End Task on the program.  Why is this?

This can occur if you have no printer attached and no Default Printer selected.  You need not have a printer physically attached to your computer, but you do need to have a printer driver loaded.  Use Control Panel… Printers… Add Printer to select a generic printer driver, and set is as the Default Printer.  Then RMS should open properly.

Using AGPM to capture an AVI, Hypercam aborts with general protection fault (GPF Details… button says problem is MSVIDC32.DLL).  AGPM then aborts.

This is usually caused by a temporary resource problem.  You should reboot your computer.  Also, if you are trying to capture large screens with fast replay rates on a slow computer, you can get this response from Hypercam.

In AGPM I get the error message “Can’t create Auto-Redraw image” when I try to add another portfolio item, then AGPM aborts.

This is usually caused by a temporary resource problem.  You should reboot your computer.
